Reflections is a program that rewards students for their artistic creativity. There are now six art areas – Literature, Musical Composition, Photography, Visual Arts, Dance Choreography, and Film/Video Production. For the elementary school, the competition is broken down into 2 age divisions – Kindergarten through 2nd grade, and 3rd grade through 5th grade. All entries are judged on artistic merit, creativity, and interpretation of the theme.
THIS YEAR’S THEME IS "BEAUTY IS...”
For our school program, one Distinguished Award is presented per age division and art area. One Award of Excellence and one Award of Merit are presented per age division and art area. Up to three entries in each category and age division are selected to represent our school in the County competition. These students, along with all other participants will be recognized at our annual Holiday Concert.
There is a reception for all County entries -- date, time and place to be announced.
Each student that reaches the State level receives a letter of Participation and Certificate. One Award of Excellence is selected per age division and category. They will represent Florida PTA at the National level. The student will receive a letter of recognition, an award certificate, a Reflection’s medal, and a $100 gift card. Up to five Awards of Merit entries are selected per age division and category. These students will receive a letter of recognition, an award certificate and a Reflection’s Ribbon.
On the National Level, 18 Awards of Excellence are selected -- three for each grade division. Up to five Awards of Merit may be selected in each grade division of each arts area. Award of Excellence recipients receive a $200 cash award and a silver-plated Reflections medallion. Award of Merit recipients receive a silver-plated Reflections medallion. One entry in each category is selected to receive the National PTA's Outstanding Interpretation Award for demonstrating the most creative interpretations of the theme. Each Outstanding Interpretation Award recipient will receive an $800 arts education award from National PTA, an expense-paid trip for themselves and a parent to the PTA National Convention, and a gold-plated Reflections medallion. In addition, National PTA will provide a $200 arts education award to the student's local PTA. The entries receiving National recognition are kept for one year to become part of a traveling exhibit.
Information on the Reflections Program is given to every student during the month of September. Entries are due in the front office by the end of the school day on Monday, November 16, 2009. Our school awards presentation is at the holiday concert in December. The County reception is in January, with the State competition in February and the National competition in April.
